Trail Updates and Conditions - Mud Season
Closures, Relocations, Maintenance Work, Word from the Trail
Please do not hike on high elevation trails during mud season. Trails on state and GMC land, including the Long Trail, are closed during mud season. The Green Mountain National Forest also strongly advises against hiking during this time. During mud season, which take place from April until Memorial Day weekend, hiking on wet trails can cause errosion and permanent damage - including trail widening - which negatively impacts our trails and causes additional work for trail manages like the Green Mountain Club's volunteers and trail crews. Please respect Mud Season. Vermont Hiking Information No other resource takes the place of an up-to-date map! Trails change and mapping technology improves, so even a map that is 5 years old may misinform you. We always recommend bringing a current map of the area you will hike along with your other hiking gear and clothing basics.
